“All pictures painted inside in the studio will never be as good as the things done outside.”

– Paul Cezanne

“There is only one true thing: instantly paint what you see.”

 – Edouard Manet

Le Marronnier Rose  is a great place for painting holidays. The countryside is heaven-sent for painting en plein air. The light is bright and clear and one is never short of subjects – the fields, the woods, the villages with their terra cotta tiles, the chateaux, the churches and the vibrant markets all compete for the artist’s attention.

Moreover, the weather is usually kind to the artist in the summer; sunny days roll by one after the other with only the occasional thunderstorm to clear the air.

The Dordogne is much loved by artists, several of whom live and work locally.

It is an inspiration to amateur and professional alike.

The scenes below are all within ten minutes walk of  Le Marronnier Rose  which sits halfway between Lusignac and Bouteilles-St.Sebastien.

“The only time I feel alive is when I’m painting.”

― Vincent van Gogh

“If I didn’t start painting, I would have raised chickens.”

― Grandma Moses

Field Trips

To provide a greater variety of subjects for guests on painting holidays, every second day we will take a trip out to an historic building, to a market or to the capital city of Perigueux.

“The secret to so many artists living so long is that every painting is a new adventure. So, you see, they’re always looking ahead to something new and exciting. The secret is not to look back.”

― Norman Rockwell
